To make the nut cake, first toast the nuts in a non-stick frying pan.

Beat the butter until smooth, gradually add the sugar and vanilla sugar, then beat in each of the eggs for about 1/2 minute.

Combine the flour with the baking powder and fold in by tablespoonfuls, adding the toasted nuts at the end.

Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan and bake at 175-200 °C for 60-70 minutes.

Optionally, while the cake is still hot, prick it a few times with a fork and brush all sides with rum or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
