Peel apples, quarter and cut into narrow slices. Mix with lemon juice, calvados and 6 tablespoons sugar and let steep covered for about 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, mix the breadcrumbs with the nuts and season with cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix in the remaining sugar.

Mix half of the mixture with the apples and place in a greased baking dish.

Sprinkle with the rest of the nut crumble and top with the butter flakes.

Bake the apple casserole in the preheated oven at 200 °C for about 30 minutes.

Preparation Tip:

If you do not want to use Calvados, you can prepare the apple casserole without it.
